FTS Flaming Lips produces large traps capable of reaching nearly 2 inches in size. These extra large traps sit atop long, thick leaf bases that grow very upright during the spring and summer months. The marginal lashes can be dentate-like early in the season, or more sawtooth-like, with many serrations, as the growing season progresses. Trap coloration is intense, with reds, yellows, and oranges displayed on the trap edges and serrated teeth. Anthocyanin production is high for this green-leafed variety, and in winter the plant can turn almost completely red, with deep purple-ish traps.
Vigor is exceptional, with a fair number of divisions, but not so many as to slow down the growth of the main plant. Small divisions reach adulthood much more quickly than most other cultivars. Self-pollination of the flowers results in a fair number of red-leafed seedlings, approximately 20%.
