A favorite of everyone at FlytrapStore.com, Jaws is a vicious looking large-trapped Venus Flytrap, the result of a cross between Dentate Traps and a vigorous unnamed Flytrap. In addition to the traps being extra-large, they are often a deep, bloody red, especially into the Summer. Jaws is an attractive upright grower (when not Dormant).

Note: Interestingly, the saw-tooth development for Jaws is seasonal, showing up most strongly in the Summer.

'Jaws' is an officially registered Venus Flytrap cultivar. It has shorter than usual "teeth" that look like the teeth of a shark, hence the name 'Jaws'. However, the "teeth" are longer in the spring months and get shorter as the year goes on, so don't be concerned if you receive a Jaws plant in the spring and it doesn't have short, shark-like teeth.

Audrey II cloned?
Bought my Jaws plant about 7 months ago. Even in dormancy, it looked mean with two very large and menacing traps. Found a black widow around the house and I couldn't resist... Jaws slurped her down and hasn't looked back. This plant is now HUGE. It scares children and some adults. BUY IT! A++++ Thanks Matt and Leah!

I have come to expect only the best, healthiest plants from FTS but, oh my god, I can't even express my excitement at seeing Jaws today!

In addition to vivid and beautiful coloration, a large (huge, considering dormancy and starter size) and extremely healthy plant, it had a trap within a trap! Two traps, on the same petiole, one right over the other. I've never seen anything like it and I'm floored they would send me such an amazing plant.

I ordered 4 potted plants and 1 bare root. The order arrived with all 5 potted. All are incredible and in amazing shape. Thank you so much, Matt and Leah!

Wonderful VFT Jaws!
Every single Venus flytrap that I've purchased from your store has arrived quickly and in good health from Oregon to South Carolina! Jaws has awesome teeth, neat growth so far and good coloring inside as well as big traps for a young plant size! I'm expecting it to shoot up in growth like the others! Thanks again for another little baby Jaws along with it. Great work as always Matt and Leah! I'm very glad to have found your store!

Love this
This cultivar is honestly one of my favorites. Plant arrived in great shape and within little time it exploded with new growth. The coloration it develops along with the size of the traps is amazing.

Wasp magnet! Super awesome VFT
This is one of my favorite VFTs! Huge traps with mean-looking teeth :) I keep mine growing at the base of my Sarracenias and it currently has FOUR wasps in its traps. Awesomeness!! I wonder if it's short strong-looking 'teeth' help with the capture rate of larger prey like wasps?

Great plants as always.
I finally got my hands on a nice Jaws plant yesterday. I've not repotted it yet because im going to give it a month or 2 to adjust to its new home in Tennessee, but from what i see, its possible that this plant is actually 2 smaller plants. After unpacking Jaws, i had a good laugh because i noticed that it's actually eating one of its own traps. Will be buying a B52 when more are in stock.

I'm Sooo happy!!!! thanks Matt and Leah
Ok when I first bought this i was worried that it would die in transit or it would be a bad plant. I was wrong Matt and Leah (owners of the store) did a A++++ job in packing it so no spag was in the traps. Also none of the traps were black and the traps were over 1-2 inches and its IN DORMANCY!!!!!! I bought a mature barefoot but I asked Leah if she would pot it for me and she said yes but with a 5$ charge but then she waived the fee! I love how cheap a Full Grown Mature Jaws vft was! This is going to be my main vft store!!!!

Thanks Leah and Matt for your wonderful store

I Have Mine Now and It Is Beautiful!
After seeing the one my husband, Randy got from FTS, he knew I would really like to have another one. He ordered me one (secretly) and it arrived on our anniversary, which I received it in excellent condition a few days after ordering. He ordered a "Jaws" Mature Plant, bareroot. This arrived as two mature bulbs, with one baby offshoot bulb. These bulbs were actually growing together but the smaller bulb was easy to separate from the larger bulbs. The growth from the two mature bulbs is very huge, and very beautiful. The main mature part of the plant had 12 fully developed traps with three smaller traps partially developed on new leaves. The large traps measured over 1 inch, nearly 1 1/4 inch. The baby offshoot bulb having six small traps and two more tiny traps starting to develop on tiny new leaves. My husband planted them for me before I seen them. He left the two mature bulbs/plants growing together and planted them in a larger pot and the baby was easy to separate from the large bulbs, so he planted it in a smaller pot by itself. They look very beautiful and we are very pleased with these Jaws Venus Flytraps.

My Wife is Getting Hers Now After Seeing This!
I ordered a "Jaws - Mature Plant, Bare root" on Thursday, July 4, 2013 and received the order on Monday, July 8, 2013. I opened it up to see several HUGE traps and several different sized smaller traps. I unwrapped the moist paper towel to find 3 separate bulbs, and each had very nice long root systems. I got one very huge plant with many huge traps, at least 3 of the traps measuring 1 and 1/4 inch. I got another smaller plant with several traps measuring about 1/2 inch, one trap measured 3/4". Then I got a baby plant with 2 traps that measures about 1/4". My wife and I were very surprised and very impressed. So now my wife, Cheryl is getting her "Jaws - Mature Plant, Bare root", ordered it a few minutes ago and looking forward to receiving this order.

Amazing Flytrap!!!
This is a GREAT product! I just received my package today and about to pot it. The traps on this plant (I ordered the mature bareroot plant) are HUGE! They were more than an inch and most of the traps were a bloody red. The plant was labeled with coming out of dormancy but even in dormancy this plant looks amazing! The package arrived in 3 days too. I also must compliment them on their growing medium, which is keeping my other VFT's very happy. The FTS just earned another loyal customer.

Fantastic start to a new collection!
Ordered five baby Jaws about a month and a half back and all are doing well. I have given a few away as gifts and have either started or fed some VFT lovers! Plants came packed very carefully bare rooted and I have been pleased with the little guys. I have suggested this site to anyone who is interested in the plants or the care of them. Can't wait till dormancy is over and they realy take off!

This is my first VFT ordered from Matt and Steve. It arrived very fast(3 days) and was very healthy. I got a young plant with some nice big traps already. One already had a snack in it lol. I love the red coloration of the mouths and the upright formation of the stems. Excellent customer service and quality of vft's. These guys know what they're doing and are the best at it. Big traps, pretty colors.
This FT is my all time favorite simply because of the coloring it can get. Once it gets that color, it looks as though someone just sprinkled red paint on the inside of the trap. Not only is the coloring really neat, but the traps are BIG and vicious looking. Biggest traps in my collection so far at ~1.5in.! (originally posted on 6/20/11)

I heart this FT clone :)
Like my B52 plants, this is another favorite, and the traps are almost as large as a B52. I now have 3 of these from FTS and all doing very well.
They are very hardy, take about 3 weeks to acclimate to full sun after potting
(depending on weather Matt and Steve were able to keep them out or not), and
they grow long stems.
Mine have not colored up yet, but they will look great by end of July.

Regarding the service from Matt and Steve, I have purched MANY plants from
them and have never been less then absolutly delighted and often awed at the
outstanding health and quality of their plants.
I have NEVER seen plants like this from any other grower, and I now ONLY
buy my FT's from FTS. (originally posted on 6/15/11)

not as happy
I ordered a Jaws fly trap on a tues. Is arrived the following Monday. It did have 10 mouths, but 3 were dead when it arrived (black or turning black). I paid for potted & got a root. No follow up, nothing. Tried to call & it went to VM. I have followed all the instructions to a tee, but its struggling. Also, Jaws has red mouths, my plant has not a single one! Not sure what to think. On top of the plant cost, spent an extra $30 on a pot (which I ordered) & all the things on the list. So after $55, i would expect more.

(The text below added by FlytrapStore.com management in response to the complaints above)

We try very hard not to make mistakes, but occasionally we do so, and your review is the first we have heard of this apparent mistake. Please email us at sales@flytrapcare.com so that we can resolve the issue.

Regarding shipping time, as stated here at FlytrapStore.com in the right sidebar of the homepage, we ship primarily on Mondays and Fridays, so a Tuesday order such as yours usually waits until Friday to be shipped. This is for practical reasons, to prevent the possibility that the plant would have to spend an extra day (Sunday) in storage before delivery. Regarding perishable live plants, the health of the plant is the primary concern and shipping speed is secondary. Orders shipped on Fridays almost always arrive on Mondays, as yours did, which means that your plant spent only 3 days in shipment.

Regarding several traps turning black, that is normal: a Venus Flytrap will sacrifice one or more leaves when it is transplanted, as the plant becomes acclimated to new growing conditions and as the roots slowly integrate into the new growing medium and are able to support the leaf growth as efficiently as before. This is true not just of Venus Flytraps but of many plants such as roses (the canes of which are trimmed when prepared for transplanting) and iris (the leaves of which are fairly severely cut for transplanting), etc. Regarding the observation that the plant seems to be "struggling," most plants including Venus Flytraps have a period of "transplant shock" during which they adapt and recover from the transition to a new growing medium (soil) and new environmental and cultural conditions. This is normal.

Regarding the condition of a plant upon arrival, if a package is delivered in very hot weather and not brought inside soon after delivery, the plant can be damaged by the heat. If it is not unbagged and attended to promptly, but remains in the carton, or stored in a refrigerator, its condition may deteriorate. We have no control over what happens to a plant and package once it is delivered, which is why we guarantee it only up until the point of delivery. Customers, especially those who are not familiar with Venus Flytraps or carnivorous plants, or not very experienced with caring for plants in general, can and often do make mistakes with the initial care of the plants we send. The instructions are merely guidelines and of course cannot address any and every possible circumstance or issue that may occur. The health of the plant(s) depend upon a person's own good judgement, careful observation and attentive care.

Regarding "Jaws has red mouths," most Venus Flytraps develop red trap interiors, but only under certain circumstances. The traps of a Jaws Venus Flytrap often, but not always, develop a deep red trap. Even on a plant with no red traps, each new trap may turn red after it matures, if given enough time and light and if the trap stays open.

Regarding your statement, "spent an extra $30 on a pot," the fee to pot a Venus Flytrap is just a few dollars, and the total cost of potting plus the increased shipping cost because of weight is usually under $10.00, not $30.00, so it is unclear to what you are referring. Once again, we urge you and any customer who have what they consider to be legitimate complaints to contact us at sales@flytrapcare.com so that we can work with you to resolve the situation. Thank you.

This plant is massive, and huge traps!
This plant was MASSIVE, I mean big. The traps are very unique, and of course as usuall the plant packaging was great. Also note its very very large roots system. About 4 of the traps were feeding on flies when I got it. Very cool! (originally posted on 5/31/11)

Mature Jaws a beautiful monster!
What a monster, it has become one of my favorites VFT's among my collection of VFT's, its traps are gigantic, and the short teeth makes them look unique, it is spring still, but the traps are getting red coloration in sunlight. The Jaws came in great conditions like any other plant i have ordered from the FTS. I would go ahead and get a few of these VFT's, you won't be dissapointed! :) (originally posted on 5/30/11)
