S. x 'Beauté Noire' (Black Beauty in French) is a cross between S. alata and S. willisii. It is a relatively short-statured plant, with pitchers topping out around 16 to 18 inches. Unlike even the darkest plants, whose pitchers usually start out mostly green or yellow or light red at best, 'Beauté Noire' pitchers start out shockingly dark red and turn almost pure black with time. It is a very challenging plant to photograph because the camera wants to turn it blueish purple rather than the blackish purple that it truly shows.
