I received this from a generous forum member who only had a couple to spare, yet they sold me this one. I managed to screw up when unpacking it from the wrapping of damp lfsm it was in by accidentally pulling off one of the longer thin roots on it. Quite pessimistic, yet determined i potted it up. A day later a leaf dried up and the whole plant lost its dew on every leaf. In fear of losing it all together i began reading about this species in particular (i have 2 tropical pings, and this is my first mexican ping) and saw that they typically react positively to the addition of dolomitic lime in their mix. I immediately went to the store and got some, mixed it into the homemade mix that i concocted and replanted it. Almost 2 weeks later (today) i see dew on every leaf and some of the color came back pretty fast. Happy plant much? Hopefully that fixed the problem. I feed my other plants with fry powder and they really like it. Has anyone here used it on a ping before? Im thinking it could really give it a boost that it could use to perk up even more. Hoping it looks healthy. I am really warming up to this fella since showing me it is a true fighter after what ive put it through. I check on it religiously before and after work and sometimes in the middle of the night if i go get something to drink while sleeping lol...

Haha, cycloescta is my newest addition too bud, we're in this together. Mine is about the circumference of a quarter, and like clockwork, I bring them home, they decide to go dormant..

Update as of today. After administering a very small dusting of fry powder to one of the leaves, it has answered my question by responding positively. Very dewy today :)

I think cyclosecta is a bit more sensitive to condition changes than we believe them to be. I had received four little cyclos from a friend who lives in Portland, so they did not experience any shipping, yet they started producing succulent leaves after only a few days in my conditions. He does grow his in a terrarium, so perhaps the lower humidity where I grow them was a bit jarring to them.

I don't know much about ping, that one looks pretty cool though! It almost looks at though it has black edges to the leaves? What color flowers does it produce?

It fades from green and then down to an almost dark purple towards the tips of the leaves. Like other Mexican Pings, It also has a succulant phase during its dormancy where the soil needs to dry out. During this stage, it loses its pretty carnivorous leaves and it grows green succulant leaves only until it is ready to come out of dormancy. During the succulant phase from what im understanding is the appropriate time to get leaf pullings. As much as i dont want to say goodbye to my warm weathered carnivore, i am counting the days to when i can propagate this beauty! The flowers that i have seen are a nice purple color, but it may be possible that someone here who has more experience with these than i do during the flowering stage may have seen other colors maybe.

I was fortunate enough to get one from AaaaNinja. It also looks like CCs has more in stock as well today.

That's a pretty massive jump for 2 weeks. What media did you use?

Yea this thing is definitely responding quickly to changes thats for sure. I received it on Aug.17th, so its been in my care for what 3 1/2 weeks maybe, almost a month, not quite...
I have it in one parts each, peat, sand, vermiculite, perlite, lfsm lining at the very bottom of the pot. I read on ICPS site to add 1 tbl spoon dolomitic lime ler cup of total soil made up, so i did that too. As soon as i put it in that medium, it rapidly responded with serious dew production and a bump in overall diameter

I have all, but vermiculite and dolomitic lime, I've never even heard of the latter?
