Hello, I was gifted a cast-off nepenthes a few weeks ago. It had been in a greenhouse, with many other very healthy nepenthes but had been accidentally neglected (fell out of its pot or maybe basket).

The plant is now by a south-facing window. The soil is quite wet, which I suspect may be an issue. The soil doesn't really seem to dry out given the lack of growth/volume of soil. I'm not sure if it's better to leave it alone or repot it, given that it's already pretty stressed out?

Strangely, an old and dessicated stem seems to be regenerating!

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

Peat/Perlite is pretty tricky for most species of nepenthes. Long fiber Sphagnum is a good option to provide oxygen to the roots while maintaining moisture. If that mix has vermiculite or something in it, that could cause an issue. For most of my nepenthes I've had good luck doing something like 40/30/30 LFS/Perlite/Orchid bark. Sometimes I go heavier on the moss, I just eye it out tbh. It provides enough drainage to give me more freedom with watering and offsets any mistakes I may make. 50/50 LFS/Perlite is also another go-to option.

It's always hard to make that call. I've noticed CPs are more tolerant of repotting over trees. If you know the situation is bad for the plant and it is likely to die, I would gamble repotting it to give it more ideal conditions. They're tougher than you think. That being said, Nepenthes don't like adjusting to new conditions and take longer than say a Drosera. If you repot it, I strongly suggest bagging it or getting it into an enclosure to give it higher humidity. It'll help the plant to recover faster and often preserves leaves. I'd worry about reacclimating after it regains its vigor.

If you know what kind of Nepenthes it is, look up requirements and soil conditions. Better to go with what it needs over risking it to see if it'll work out.
