My S. Purpurea isn't looking so good. I bought it 2 months ago. I do the basics such as give it a lot of sun, distilled water, and peat and perlite mix. I bought 3 other plants a long with this one. One being a S. X "Yellow Jacket". The yellow jacket is doing good and has grown a new pitcher. Seems like the S. Purpurea didn't recover from the transport shock. Any suggestion? Is my plant dead or can it come back? Also it has some red circles on one of the pitchers. Is that normal?

Doesn't look dead to me. I'd just be patient. Purps take forever to recover sometimes.

It should recover. I have a few divisions like this (two pitchers on them at most, and one of them being brown) because that's what the seller's sent to me, and... since it's been a cold year nothing has really taken off for me yet. I estimate that sarr divisions need at least a year to settle into your growing conditions anyways though, before they send out some decent growth.

if its still green and the base isn't mush its still good, even sometimes worse and they come back - when our S. Purpureas (and hybrids) got set back for various reasons last year it took all growing season to really start to recovery/look semi respectable and just now this summer growing season are they looking decent again (back to where they were)

I also noticed that soil looks like it has too much perlite, making it too dry for a purpurea. They prefer being soaked. What % of sphagnum or peat did you use? (What I’m assuming is peat also looks like it’s in some weird pellet form).

The mixture is 50/50. The peat does seem to be clumped up. I'll repot during dormancy and make sure the peat is broken down. I am seeing new growth now. I think the issue is that I was letting the soil dry a bit like vfts. I am now making sure they have water all the time.
