So this is going to be the start of a review of carnivorous plant nursery. since there aren’t all that many I thought I’d share my experience. As some already know I took the liberty of significantly expanding my collection with tax money because what better way to spend it right? For several days I looked at various online sources and suppliers and landed on carnivorous plant nursery because they had a very good selection of plants at decent prices and the plants themselves were actually in stock. So before I purchased I looked for reviews to see what I was getting myself into and I didn’t find a whole lot. The very few reviews were mixed but mostly positive. The negative reviews mainly pertaining to lack of package tracking/seller contact and smaller than desired plant size, both things I can live with as long as I get the plants I ordered in healthy condition. So given they had the plants I wanted and there is no reward without risk I made my order. My order consists of: 1x drosera spatulata, 1x drosera capensis, 2x drosera intermedia, 2x drosera capillaris, 2x medium king Henry, 2x medium akai ryu, 2x medium dente, 3x small serracenia flava, 1x medium serracenia x farnhamii, 1x medium serracenia x bug bat, 1x medium potted Cephalotus follicularis, 1x small early butterwort. One thing I noted when making my order is the size of all the drosera are not specified but I’m guessing pretty small based on the prices, one example $5.95USD for a drosera capensis. I completed my order on Tuesday night 3/19/19 and promptly received my order confirmation. (I was then made aware after payment that the owner operator only ships on Monday and Tuesday.) EDIT: I was wrong in saying it’s not stated prior I just didn’t see it. I’ll admit I’m not the most patient person in the world. As of Today, 3/22/19 I have received no email confirming my order has shipped. Anyone with experience with this seller please chime in with any experiences. I will keep you all updated, and when my plants arrive I’ll be sure and get lots of pictures.

Mark,

I have not dealt with this nursery but a check of the web site reveals a statement on the site that they ship on Tuesdays. It is under the "Terms and Conditions" section in the shopping cart.

In my area, we have to be concerned that tender items do not get stuck sitting exposed to cold weather in transit over the weekend. So it is a good thing, at least for me, when a vendor ships early in the week.

Like you, I am always eager to receive plants as soon as possible after ordering but only if they can be shipped safely.

I am always careful when dealing with a vendor for the first time to make a small purchase of only one or two items until I know how well they fulfill their orders. There are some bad guys out there, but fortunately not too many.

Hope everything works out.

I’ll take responsibility for that one. 100% My fault for not reading terms and conditions. I suppose my excitement got the better of me. I also agree with your statement about not wanting plants stuck in the cold. I will mention I did pay extra for heat packs, and US priority mail the method the plants are being shipped does ship through the weekends. You are correct none the less. I also agree 100% with your point about small orders when trying out a dealer, very smart. My reason for such a large order is that I intend to plant a bog garden with most of the plants ordered. It just seems easier and cheaper on shipping to buy all the plants for the garden at once. I suppose hindsight is 20/20. Ordering CP’s online is a new one for me, all my current plants I have purchased locally but sadly all my local places severely lack in variety.

I've never had any major problems with this seller but then I have no trouble being patient. He is slow to ship and contact is spotty so don't be afraid to shoot him an email and politely ask about your order, don't expect a quick response though. If I recall correctly, the plants were all healthy enough and reasonably well packed but nothing outstanding either in the positive or the negative.

I’ll wait until the order has time to get here before emailing him, and I intend on being polite if I do. After re-reading that section I can see it came off far more inflammatory than I had intended. I went ahead and removed it because it doesn’t really add anything to the review anyway. My original intent for that section was just to highlight the longer than average time to ship. I’m just trying to give a review from a first time buyers perspective since that’s who I imagine would use the review the most. Better wording is in order.

I have had very good experiences with this vendor. They once sent me a Nepenthes that was mis tagged. After the identification error was made aware to them a year later the plant was replaced. So I still will consider ordering from them in the future

My plants finally arrived today and I’m pleased for the most part. Everything except the Cephalotus came bare root wrapped in moist sphagnum moss with a wet paper towel on the outside. All plants were rubberbanded and in a big plastic bag. There was plenty of newspaper in the box around the plants. Overall I’m very pleased with how it was packaged. All the plants were clearly labeled, which helped because al the plants came dormant. I got all the plants potted up with organic peat moss and pearlite in 6” pots. Roughly a 50/50 mix. Though I did run out of peat moss so my tropical pot is deffinetly overcrowded but tomorrow I’m going to get more. I wasn’t shorted any plants; I actually received one extra akai ryu. My only complaints are that my drosera intermedia are very VERY small, and my cephalotus is labeled as a medium but is tiny. My cephalotus also has some sort of white fungus/mold on several leaves. Overall I am pleased with my order except my moldy cephalotus.

Would you treat it with hydrogen peroxide, and at what concentration? Are you seeing any other plants that I should be concerned with? I thought everything except the cephalotus and my two drosera capilaris looked well enough.

Every time I buy from him I either get powdery mildew, Thrips, Or both my n. bical, he shipped with thrips, and when I asked for help, he told me cut the leaves instead of recommending a way to NOT harm my plant
(Ive had the bical for 1/2 year, and it has only gotten worse, its down to 2 leafs)

I like the owner because he seems like an outstanding guy and does educational stuff on cps. However I do not recomend purchasing plants from him. I ordered 11 mirandas 10 small and 1 medium. All of wich were roughly the same size and i would classify them as medium so i was pleased untill a few months later when my whole collection was over run by thrips. Still trying to recover.

Please isolate and treat your plants if you do decide to order. Prices are very reasonable.
