So I ordered my first drosera the other day, when it gets here, am i supposed to soak it in distilled water before planting it? I thought I read that somewhere.

You definitely can soak it, and I would or wouldn't depending on how much dew got all over it and how it looks when it arrives. It won't hurt the plant to soak it though

You can definitely do that with flytraps. As for drosera: I just got a drosera binata, and I soaked it, and it ended up losing all of the dewy parts of its leaves. It's growing new leaves and seems fine, but I was worried that losing all the dewy parts was due to the soak (and potentially, the plant basically eating itself). Hopefully someone with more sundew experience will chime in.

If nothing else, you could always just dip the roots. I do this when I'm waiting to repot plants to keep their roots damp while I set up their pot.
