All,

I'm in search of a reliable source for quality Nep seeds. I think I'll have an easier time finding Sasquatch, but hey, worth a try.

Any recommendations for reliable seed vendors?

Spoke to Nauz a bit about it already. I have a post in progress on TF about my current Nepenthes nursery terrarium that is under construction. I'm working on getting a tank going that will carry neps from their post ziplock stage to their trade/sale/windowsill size. It's an old 55 gallon that is being set up as an ebb and flow watered, humidity and temperature controlled tank. I have tons of electronics experience, and the construction part of this isn't the difficult part; it's finding legitimate seed that is going to be much more difficult.

I recently got some Nep seeds from rarexoticseeds. How viable they are I'm still waiting to find out. They come out of Canada though. Shipping is a little higher, but from my understanding they are pretty reputable.

I should have some seeds coming from Nauz too.

I have some Nep seeds coming directly from a grower I trust when he gives me a harvest date. Nothing too crazy or rare but some interesting crosses. I'll probably have some extra I could sell. PM me and I'll let you know when they arrive.

I don't trust most of the harvest dates given on eBay and probably 99% of the pure species listed there are poached anyways.

Hey would you be kind enough to let us know if any of those seeds germinate? I've seen that website before but decided against buying since nep seeds lose viability really quickly and I wasn't sure of their legitimacy.

I most certainly can and will do that. That actually reminds me I should look at them good tonight anyways. I usually just crack the lid and blow in it without really even looking. How long is the viability of nep seeds anyways? I've heard like a month.

Yeah the sooner you sow them the better I think after a month or so your seeds will take ages to germinate like 2-7 months or may just not germinate at all but that's just going off of what I've read online and other people's experience currently I have 7 different types of seed going but no germination yet

In my experience, Nepenthes seeds will most often germinate within 1-2 months though they can take 6 months, or possibly even as long as 2 years. Freshly harvested in optimal conditions, it's possible for them to germinate in a week but I wouldn't count on it.

Nepenthes seeds do have a reputation for losing viability quickly though it's not as quickly as most people would have us believe, especially for highlanders. There are certain species like N. bicalcarata which really will only last a month in storage though.

Fresh Nep seeds I got from Leathal_Traps took about 1-2 months to germinate. Some N. naga seeds I got from a friend locally took around 6 months for the first one to germinate (that one didn't even survive) the other 2 of the that germinated (of 7 seeds total) took around 7 months to germinate.

Nep seeds take some time. I had some ventricosa that took about 4 months to germinate. In my experience, rare exotic seeds are horrible. I think I got some neps then some burmanii or some other "weedy" sundew, none ever germinated

Thank you guys for posting your experiences. That definitely eases my mind a little. Well other than HeliamphoralWalnut telling me their seeds are junk. Lol. At least I didn't dump a crap load of money on seeds from them. We'll see how my experience with them goes.
