Should the new pitchers have fluid in them when they open?

Yes, they should have water in their pitchers, but sometimes the water dries up.
For purpurea, you can always add a bit of distilled water into their pitchers to aid in digestion.

The new pitchers are dry. Mine only get filled when it rains. If it doesn't rain often enough, then the pitchers can run dry.

Ok thx I’ve been refilling the other pitchers as it seems like they don’t ever make their own fluid..I get like zero rain so the only time they have any fluid in them is when I add it I figured they would make some similar to a nepenthes? Just a little at the bottom of the pitcher right?

Sometimes the water evaporates very quikly, especially in dry/hot conditions.

For S. Purpurea, I like to fill the pitchers from 25-50% full.
