I have 3 problems, that I need a bit of help with please.

1. Ive seen a black and white spider climbing in my peat, ive just researched on google. Its not a spider mite, as its not red, and I could see it instantly. Its about 0.8cm.

2. Since ive bought the new vft, like any other ive seen bits of white (Scale, but not round. Crumble off in my hand.). Ive been watering it with RO, the only problem I can guess is that I didnt wash the peat. Should I repot everything in washed peat?

Theres some perlite thats brown =/

3. Still, new growth on my 2nd oldest vft is just dying. Can anybody suggest some causes?

Thank god for that  Ive seen people fussing about webs etc, but theres always any spider that could jump aboard.

Im going to try to wash that stuff off my plants when it next gets dry and wash underneath their leafs. Its nothing bad, as it isnt harming the 3 new ones. I think im going to buy some Arthur Bowers online, even though it costs a load more. There are no growers in Gloucestershire to help me.

Hayden,

Are these plants inside your greenhouse?

That white stuff could be anything from crushed perlite to fungus.

The brown perlite is just perlite that is moldy.

That dieing vft looks like it may possibly be mineral burn, try flushing the soil with distilled water, or repot.

I have no idea about the spider, but it sounds like Rob identified it for you?

I've noticed that perlite turns brownish yellow after a while when mixed with peat moss. I think it may be the tannins in the peat that stain it.

And I agree with tc3 that the dying VFT looks like it has some sort of mineral burn.

could be pests, fungus ect..

perlite will not mold, it is a volcanic rock

brown perlite is probably wet peat soaked in the perlite.

Right, im a lazy guy so just decided to flush it with some fresh 0ppm water =D I filled the top of the pot with water, bringing any insects up (Only found 1 fly.). That will be a brilliant flush, its now sat in the lid of a watering can so it can just drain through.

Lets hope we can see an improvement, ill keep you all updated :)

Thanks

About neem, its not what we use in England. We have our own fungus spray and insecticide ready prepared. Its not fungus though, it crumbles.

No, but whats the point in mixing neem and all that when you have just one product that you need to spray once and insects are dead.

Very cheap too.
