Today in the morning my Nepenthes Veitchii arrived, and when I opened the box up, I noticed that the Nep have another Nep growing from the side of stalk/trunk :o. Can I propagate it? And why is it growing another Nep?

Hello,

Looks like a basal shoot. Could be an effect of pgr if it has been tissue cultured or the plant is just matured enough. Have the shoot grow a bit more and then you can cut it for propagation. Congrats on the Veitchii, I love this plant.

The basal shoot has already has 3 normal sized pitchers, and it's about the same size of the parent plant, do you think It's ready to cut it?

ok yer its not so good when you loose them parts been there dont that
ok still hard to make a call on this , as some times they appear to be one plants when in fact there are 2 plants in the same pot juts all the roots are tangled up !! or it can also split into 2 stems from the one plant or root system , which also happens a lot , you may need to remove from potting mix and take a look at the stem from the root ball to see if infact its either of what i have suggested so we can still make a proper call on it need more info still !!

The "basal shoot" is growing right on the stem, so it's not a second individual plant

ok seems like you have the right terminology now a Basel shoot ok , well all neps produce these at some stage in there grow life some early like yours, some later like lowii , , at this stage or your PC growing i would just let it grow until you have a great knowledge of what to do and when and how , , there will be no harm to your plant at all and having 2 growth points means more pitchers for you to look at , some of mine have up to 6 or 7 Basel shoots on a lot of plant so I just let them grow till there are to big, and old enough and then make cuttings from the older stems , my advice is to gain some grow experience for a year or more then do some cuttings as the plant get larger hope that helps
