What subspecies is my S. purpurea? I know that it can either be a S. purpurea ssp. purpurea or a S. purpurea ssp. venosa. I need some help identifying my Sarracenia

Here is the link to my S. purpurea (If y'all like, you're welcome to look at the rest of the my carnivorous plant collection :D )

a picture would help. If you cant give a pic of your plant then find an image on the net that looks similar to your sarracenia.

I think your plant is a Purpurea Purpurea.

Here are some pics of wild plants http://www.sarracenia.com/galleria/g262n.html

And HERE are some pics of Venosa: http://www.sarracenia.com/galleria/g262s.html

Purpurea has a more waxy coat than Venosa.

Here is some good reading and taxonomy help on the subject: http://www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq5538.html

As you will note, the two subspecies are not clearly defined...and therefore it is difficult to label a cultivated plant.

You are the only one who can know for sure, since you have the plant in front of you to study. Now, you also have the resources.

I also thing that your plant is Sarra Purpurea Purpurea it's not Venosa. Your plant is too green and if you give it more light you will see it's real colors. Here similar plant like yours now in autumn.

Judging by the hirsuteness of the pitcher, the more creamy green than solid green and the placement of the hairs on the hood, I'd say it's subsp. venosa.

Whatever it is, it looks in need of more light...

But aren't the pitchers a little skinny to be a Venosa ssp?
