The spotty reminds me of Brother Peoker. How well does the clear yellow keep its color? Many of the yellows -- especially the older hybrids -- don't hold their color as well as the other colors.

I really don’t know. Someone was giving it away last summer so I took it. They said it hadn’t bloomed in years. First time blooming for me. So far colors are good.

Phals are typically pretty easy to bloom. If the leaves are super dark geeen, then it may benefit from more light. The biggest trigger is to have the plant where it will experience a daytime vs nighttime temperature drop of 10-15 degrees.

I put my phals outside in the fall when night temps are in the 50’s under a shade tarp so they experience the temp swings. Seems to work for me as all my healthy phals have flower spikes.

I have one unhealthy one due to root rot that is slowly recovering and no spike on it.

When I was in an apartment, I was able to get one to flower every winter by keeping it right next to our kitchen window. It just a touch of full sun which would heat it up a little, as would using the sink etc., but I think what really helped was it being a touch drafty and cool at night by that window.

If you live in the Great White North, a windowsill will likely do the trick. If your apt is too warm, you could even try shutting the drapes at night with the plant between the window and the drape. If you live a bit further south, simply leaving the window of the sill the plant sits on open a bit may work.
