My Hercules x self has started to flower. Thank goodness the flowers open two at a time. I cannot find a paintbrush anywhere in my house so I used a q-tip if I just rub the q-tip around the inside of one flower and the other flower and then back to the first is that sufficient? This is my first time with a Hercules.ImageImage

I agree with @ChefDean. Hercules is a cross between capensis and aliciae, 2 self-pollinating species.

Hercules is actually most likely pure capensis. It was registered as capensis x aliciae since that's how it was labeled when the plant was obtained by the registrant, but there are no signs of aliciae influence in either the leaves or the flowers.

In any case it's just as weedy as pure capensis, so I'd worry more about spilling seeds than pollinating...
