Hey everyone,

I got this sarracenia last year and I've noticed what look like the roots coming out the bottom of the pot. I think these plants only use their roots for water unlike traditional plants. Should I upgrade the pot size? Am I hindering its growth by leaving it in the current pot?

Thanks, Tyler

Roots coming out of the bottom of the pot in my opinion, almost always means it's time for a repot.

this photo is from a 3gallon pot.

They get large and grow deep roots. i re pot for size increases, 3 gallon being my largest pots. Other then that just freshen media, when the PH goes up things start to rot. this will take 2-5 years based on how and what you water with.

I'd leave it for now and repot and refresh the media in the spring. If you want to do it now, slip it out of the pot it is in but don't remover the media. Just set it in a hole in the new pot.

Thanks for the advice, I repotted another one earlier in the year and its roots were bound in the bottom. I figured since this one grows stubbier traps it wouldn't creep through the bottom as quick.
Do all varieties roots reach the same depth eventually, or will the shorter types end up shorter I wonder? I'll try and set it in a bigger pot like Panman suggested just so it continues to grow.
