How long does it take for a venus flytrap leaf to develop? I’ve been observing mine for a while now and it seems to not be as fast as my d. Burmannii. I’m in a tropical country, just in case this affects anything. Can someone tell me how long it takes to develop a trap? Thx ;)

I have not been growing my mine for long but I think it depends on how much direct sunlight they are getting and how big the traps it is trying to grow. I give mine 6 hours of direct sun and I think I remember it taking a week to 2 weeks at most? Maybe more?

Also, right now in the northern hemisphere, flytraps are going dormant. Even though the weather may not be much cooler in the Philippines, the shorter days are probably slowing down the plants some.

So the plant in a sense is a slow-growing plant? Also, where is your location?

It isn't really a slow growing plant but a Burmannii is a fast growing annual. After I repotted my humpty doo plants together and messed up their rosettes, they formed new leaves and look good as new within a couple weeks or so. Flytraps actually grow pretty fast. Not like a burmannii but my plants will put out a new leaf and trap in about a week? They grow at different rates but I had a purple ambush that came back from a cutting more or less and established itself into a decent sized plant with multiple growth points within a few months. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=47079&start=15

Mine hasn't made a noticeable growth change in about 5 days. Does it have something to do with light? Here's my chosen location:

It grows with my mothers houseplants, but it's outdoors since we're in a tropical country. Does temperature affect it, or does dormancy have something, because it's the colder months in the year this year in December. Things get warmer in (shockingly) February-March, since there's not much temp change. Are they probably dormant? The place where I bought them doesn't really do dormancy, but I think they still do. We sometimes do dry dormancy, but my main question is if my vfts are not growing quickly due to dormancy or light. Does anyone know? :?: :?: :?: :| :|

Did you just get it or it got repotted?

If so, it is just growing roots instead of leaves for now.

I am in central Florida, USA. The temperatures here can get into the low 30s F at night, but lately it's been 40s and 50s, with 60s and 70s during the day. Last year I think it was in the mid-80s during the day. Both years, the plants have slowed down to almost imperceptible growth.

Think you're right. Last year was much warmer. I'm on the coast so nights have been in the 50s with that odd 46 which is pretty unusual for this time of year. Last year that didn't happen until the tail end of winter. Flytraps have definitely been crawling and most of the sundews are dormant now. The only freak is the binata outside that don't seem to really care about temps. They have stopped flowering though, finally. Been at it for months now.
