I bought a variegated nepenthes alata from predatory plants at a show and sale. It started producing a basil a few months back and i noticed that with each new leaf, the varigation starts dissapearing, ive also noticed that the mpther plant grows much, much slower than the basil and with each leaf, its getting smaller and smaller, what could be causing this?

I use a fluorescent compact 4500k cool white grow light thats set on a timer for 6 hours each day.
It has 80 days and 60 nights.

Thank you all.

Because variegated cells in plants grow slower than normal cells they risk being pushed out of the growth point. That is what is happening with the basal. Because the basal grows faster than the growth point it has a higher risk of being pushed out of the growth point. Did you recently move the Alata under stronger lights or give it significantly longer light periods?
