Hey guys, just wanted some quick opinions on the condition of my gigantea. It has been producing some kinda wacky leaves, so I've been concerned about its health.

Thanks!Image

It doesn’t look too bad to me; no real deformation of the kind that aphids and the like would cause.

It just used to look.. Well better. The leaves more rounded and they weren't ruffled they way they are now. Could it just be that it's just maturing and getting larger?

They change through the seasons. They don’t have a succulent stage like a lot of Mexican pings, but they can grow a little smaller and the leaves can grow stouter. It could just be going through it’s change. There are different forms too, and mine all look different from each other right now.

I use a combination of API Aquatic Plant Media with some coarse sand, a little peat and some mushroom compost. The last ingredient made all the difference; before that my original plant never got any wider than the 4” pot it was growing in.

I don’t remember the brand to be honest. You don’t need too much; I used maybe 10-15% in my mix. I grow under lights; the red is a characteristic of that particular variety and only shows up during the winter. The original plant is almost 8” across now. ImageImage
