Hi I’m wondering if I could feed my sarracenia hard shell bugs? We get a lot of stink bugs that die by by our windowsill. If any hardshell bugs, what can I feed my sarracenia?

I finally was able to answer this question on my own and found out that yes you can feed them hard shelled bugs. Even ticks are not an issue!!! I’ve been also feeding my Sarracenias and Sarracenia purpureas, those pesky Japanese beetles and have left their skeletal remains! Turns out they get the help from bacteria and some mosquitoes and possibly other bugs which also may get devoured by these awesome plants!!!! Yay!!!

As long as the insect in question is able to fall deeply enough down to be submerged in the pitcher's fluid, it can be used.

Correct! For the plants that have not developed deep and wide enough pitchers I use freeze dried blood worms until they develop good sized pitchers. I find the best pitchers for catching larger amounts of prey so far is the purpurea. Do they catch these bugs themselves yes and no. I read they aren’t the best at catching anything, but if you have loads of dead/live bugs that you catch. Feed them to the purpurea. They’ll love you for it!

That is very cool! I have actually been using my phone’s flashlight at night going up and down each tube or at least I used to. I would do it more often if I had them up higher and not kneeling towards them. I need to get a good table made or buy one.
