I have a Nepenthes x Miranda which I propagated from a cutting 3 years ago. I want to know if it is getting close to growing a climbing stem. The plant just lost its largest pitchers grew two new larger leaves and then it grew a leaf twice the size of the last one. I remember reading somewhere that plants usually only grow large leaves when they have a climbing stem. I have some pictures.

Ok so I checked on the parent of the cutting plant which I haven't done in a while and what I saw was very interesting.

Two things

1) The sign that your nepenthes is going to form a climing stem is the distance between leaves. When Nepenthes are climbing, they usually have a good few inches of stem between each leaf. If you notice the stem length between leaves growing, the plant may begin to climb

2) It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the peristome of the pitcher has a little tear in it. The rest of the peristome should flare out in a little while. Sure is wierd though!
