Hello guys
recently i've got an idea. and my idea is that you could give (not only to youre flytraps) mykorrhiza so for thoose hwo dont know what mykorrhiza is thoose are root fungi that support plants with symbiotic realtionship.
so my question is did anyone tried giving mykorrhiza to carnivoures plants?
i hope someone can give me an answer

I've read about this on other forums with other plants but I don't think I've ever read about it being used with VFTs. In the case of plants other than VFTs true believers say it does wonders except in the case of Drosera where it seems that beneficial fungi can be harmful (weird). I too would be interested in how mycorrhizae would effect a flytrap.

I wouldn't think mycorrhizal fungi would help a whole lot since the roots on VFT's are "anchors" and not really used for nutrient absorption, but someone told me that they use RootShield on their Heli's which contain trichoderma and seems to improve root structure and health of the plants. Apparently it's good at preventing disease causing fungi from forming.

I think I've seen Mycorrhiza discussed on other boards.
I know nothing about this but if I wanted to try it, this is what I'd do.

I would try to set up a semi-scientific experiment.
1) Buy two identical VFTs in death cubes from the same store at the same time. Try to find two that are the same size . (So there is a high probability they are the same clone.)
2) Grow them under identical conditions.
3) Treat one with Mycorrhiza.
4) Do this for one year and compare the differences.

Good growing,
Mike

i don't think so. flytraps grow in acidic soil where fungi doesn't tread. perhaps it could be done in captivity in different soils, but not in the wild, and not in the plant's natural evolutionary history. mykorrhiza is quite foreign to flytraps.
