How come my vft wont close?#2786

Last week my friends were over and they saw my vft's. they asked me if they could touch one to see how it shuts. (i know your not supposed to do that lol) I said no, but they kept annoying me, so I let them touch the inside of just one. it didnt work, i dont know why...how come its like that?

Have you opened and closed that trap a lot? Traps can only be opened and closed a few times. Otherwise, it could just be that the plant is dormant or the trap is old.

Matt pretty much summed it up. Each Dionaea trap has a limited number of times that it can open and close. Usually it is around four to six times but this does vary per plant. This is why you never want to set the traps off inadvertently, unless you are feeding your plant.

Thank you both Matt and Giovanni! It hasnt closed much at all, maybe not even closed once. But I guess its because as Matt said, it is dormant.
