I was watering my plants this morning and also hoped that my near-death binata would come back to life. And so, while I was watering it, a bunch of white insect ran out of the soil and tried to escape. I attempted to kill them all by drowning them and they all started flying.

What on earth are those insects? Are they harmful?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

looks like springtails... if by "flying" you mean jumping, there's a good chance they are springtails and harmless AFAIK.
i think some pests look similar though, so maybe someone else will comment

edit: also, binatas can die off completely in the colder months, but still be alive from their thick roots, although your location, singapore i think is warm all year round, so they may be dead afterall?

Yeah, it's probably dead. I'll just do some root cuttings and see if it'll come back or not.

Yeah, it's probably dead. I'll just do some root cuttings and see if it'll come back or not.
Not sure if that will help, as they are, they are essentially root cuttings already planted as is.
