Is trimming the sphagnum moss beneficial for its growth? Will it grow faster than without trimming at all?

if you mean shaving back the tendrils... i don't think so, it's possible they will strike maybe, but i don't think that's likely

if you mean like, seperating growth points, i believe that will cause it to grow a bit faster

Actually, sphagnum grows the best in a colony. At least, that's what I have found.

And yes, chopping or trimming, (not regularly) will cause it to grow faster.

I have experimented with chopping them in half if they grew too tall, and all parts continued to grow well. However, the pieces should be decent sized segments. Like, I wouldn't chop them into half inch pieces and expect it all to grow back fast. My rule is cut it at 1-2 inches if you feel the need to grow more.
