Confusions are often brought up in regards to these 2 plants. I took a few photos of these 2. Hopefully it helps everyone to differentiate them. The alata in the photo is probably a graciliflora after recent reclassification, but still a good representative in the "alata group". The first photo shows the pitchers. Peristome of ventrata is closer to ventricosa. Leaf is narrowed before attached to the stem on alata. The overall leaf shape and texture are shown at the bottom of the photo.

Unless the plant is sourced from reputable CP nurseries, it is very likely a ventrata when labeled as alata.
