Hi, One of my Nepenthes has begun to grow side shoots (see photo). Because the rest of the plant is over one and a half meters high, very scraggly and does not seem to produce piturs any more, I was wondering if I could cut the vines off above the new shoots and just have the smaller version of the plant growing?
Thanks for any help, Pat :D

Hi Pat, I don't see why you couldn't just cut off the stem above the new shoots. The plant may respond by throwing out more laterals (side shoots) from the old stem if you leave it a little longer, then you may be able to treat the old stem as cuttings and grow more plants from it.

Your nepenthes is growing basal shoots. It doesn't matter whether you want to leave the nepenthes be, or cut of the whole stem.

You can cut off the part of the stem to encourage the growth of more basal shoots and to use the stem as cuttings. Since your plant is sooo tall...  , might as well don't cut off the whole plant. This is the beauty of nepenthes, as they grow older and longer climbing stems, they grow basal shoots as a replacement of ground pitchers.

Cheers
