Does anyone have experience growing the australian pitcher plant out in full sun? i live in southern california. i am able to grow darlingtonia californica outside so i hope i can cephalotus also. as of now it is growing in partial sun along my nepenthes. can anyone recommend a good soil mix?

I haven't tried exposing my Ceph in Full Sun but I heard good thing from growers that did. Mine is under 2 T5 lights with 70% humidity.

The best soil mix that I found is 1part peat, 1 part perlite and 1 part sand.

Plenty of people grow Cephs outside. I wish I could, but the summer heat here is ridiculus. I would think that would be your main problem. From my limited knowledge, I believe Cephs perfer cooler temps than Darlingtonia

i keep my Ceph in a east window with direct sunlight.. where i live hardly any humidity less than 10%

I have read at a website that has been growing plants for years that cephalotus can tolerate temps of about 100 degrees as long as the night temps drop down to 45 - 65 degrees.
I'm not sure , but I'm pretty sure that they can grow in your climate.(which is the same as mine , by the way ) here's the link: http://cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=11

thanks eric! yeah, i guess we do have a similar climate. my cephalotus wasnt as colorful as i wanted it to be so i figured it could use more light. i did go ahead and place it outside, but not next to my darlingtonia. i put it in a spot were it receives around 5-6 hours of direct sun and bright light the rest of the day. so far it seems to be doing well. no leaf burn or anything like that. maybe next year when i get to divide all my plants, since they are seed grown and there's like 5 plants bunched up together, i can put them in different parts of my house and see where they grow the best.
