Well sorry guys but its spring here , and the sarras are going reasonably well , as the start to our spring has been very sunny hot and dry , but the sarras love it , have not had time to trim them all up so most still have last years growth on , ,now I have reduced the sarras down to a manageable level ,its much easier to just let them go and do there own thing , have pollinated many Flowers again this year.

I think they mean trim off any dead or dying parts of the leaf  slash pitchers

Hi Starchy
sarra trimming is not a total necessary thing , as in the wild they naturally decay off the plant during winter , its more about keeping you plant looking nice , and dieing of pitchers can cause some fungal attacks if the grow area is not well ventilated too , but here mine can still grow during winter because we have very mild winters ,never get below zero and very light frost and no snow , but most of my sarras go 3/4 dormant , just enough to give them that break they need , and many of the pitchers only half die as you can see in the photos leaving them quite unsightly , so normally when i see the flower spiks coming up or even before that in late winter trim off any half dead or further advanced dead pitchers off all most at the rhizome leaving about 1 in 1/2in piece of solid pitcher stem behind ,this is what i call trimmed up plant
hope that helps a bit ,if you need any more explanation or help just ask , there is no silly question in plant care !
