If you ever want to remove paper stickers from your plastic lids of your containers, you remove them with hot water. But under paper, glue may remain. You can remove the glue without water at all ! Just use a "cpu and heatsink cleaner". After that you can wash the solvent with soap and water. The image of the product is an example, not an advertisement !

Depending on the adhesive rubbing alcohol works as well.

Ahhh, I do love the scent though of the citrus based TIM cleaners.
