Does anyone know if dewy pines are light-dependent germinators?

Dewy Pines are light lovers. I start mine in a 2 inch peat pot with peat moss. I scarify the seed on the fat end and it can be good to let it soak in distilled water for a couple days but I don't think you really have to. Then I put the pot under a strong grow light and in a west window. I live in Arizona so I want to get it ready for our sun asap. After the seedling has a couple leaves I poke holes in the pot so the roots can spread and place it in a Terra Cotta pot no smaller than 10 inches. The soil I used is pumice, perlite, vermiculite and sand. I have a number of them that I've grown here for a couple of years without any issues. One other item is you want to keep the seedlings wet if your in a warm dry climate. Top watering is ok. Hope this helps good growing!

Arizona, do you have any problems with seeds not germinating if too close together?

Isn't there supposed to be a chemical that prohibits it?

I have some right now that are growing great within 1 inch of each other, so I'm not sure how true that is, but I've heard that too.
