Okay, so I recently purchased some seed from FTS and decided to build a germination enclosure to take the seedlings through winter and keep them growing. The setup is honestly a bit overboard, but I happened to have all this stuff laying around. The lights are on a timer for 15 hours a day. After winter in the early Spring I will start introducing them to outside conditions.
The temperatures during the day consistently stay around 87 to 90 degrees and at night drop to 80.
The aeration stone at the bottom of the tank keeps the water from getting stagnant and pumps in fresh new air while the old air leaves through a vent at the top. Also, it helps keep the humidity high
Humidity stays around 75% to 80%
Here is what I used:
10 gallon tank $10.00
Overhead terrarium fixture (two bulbs) $20.00
x2 1700 lumen compact florescent bulbs. $5.00 (each)
x2 bricks $0.80 (each)
Aeration stone, hose and pump. $15.00
Florescent light grate acting as shelf. $6.00
Temperature gauge and humidity gauge. $10.00
Styrofoam cups $1.00
Timer $5.00
