I've had my Mirror vft's since November now, but I haven't seen any flanged traps emerge yet, so I thought I'd make this thread to try and figure out why. Anyone with Mirror vft's should post pictures of them here (with or without flanged traps) with dates and set ups, so we could determine what causes the flanged trap (Temp, humidity, time of year...etc) or if the flanged traps really do just appear sporadically and at random :)

Mine are still fairly small, except for one, but even that one doesn't have any flanged traps :| I just took these pictures right now, it's been in the high 90's lately, humidity has been below 20% and they receive about 9 hours of full sun(with shade cloth). I didn't know Mirror could get red coloration:D

Very interesting thread. Mine is grown indoors on a South-East windowsill. It is currently recovering from shipping stress, and has only produced 3 not fully formed traps, not flanged. How big is your biggest 'Mirror'?

We grow several dozen, perhaps a couple hundred now, and very few of them have flanges this time of year it seems. I do recall that my mother plant had a lot of flanges late last summer, but not all of the clones did. The flanges seem like a fairly random occurrence without any predictability as far as I can tell.

The biggest one measure about 4in.(about 10 cm) across, and the smaller ones about 1 1/2in(about 4cm) across...all the small ones are about the same size.

Were the ones with flanges in different locations than the others, or was anything different about their care at all?

Care was the same. The mother plant was in a different greenhouse where it received slightly different lighting conditions, but they're all in the backyard essentially in the same place cared for in essentially the same way with only subtle minor differences.

I'm not sure any of them have flanges at this point. I was referring to sometime last fall in September or October...

But yeah, I'll take a look and find some with flanges and post some photos. I know I saw at least a few with flanges out there the other day.

Matt,
I remember seeing a mirror x mirror post, and thought you posted it but I looked it up and guess it was someone else's plant.

Have you done any crosses with mirror? Do you think the mutation would be more prevalent if it were cross pollinated with another mirror? or self pollinated?...although I just realized that all clones are genetically identical so would it matter?

Hello

I grow mirror for several years and i can say. The small leaf cuttings and Young plants don't make any flange at the traps.
The bigger and older plants makes flanges only in the spring and the late Summer and Autumn.
So i would say wait a Little bit sins your plant grow bigger.
You can see the flanges even at the new unopen Traps.

bye Thomas

Hmm, I don't recall anyone else doing a Mirror x Mirror cross. If you saw a photo of one, it was probably the one I posted. Do you have a link?

I personally haven't done any crosses myself. I've only flasked and germinated seed that others have sent me. And the only 'Mirror' seed I've germinated was Mirror x Mirror, from which some of the seedlings definitely have flanges.

Thanks Thomas, that makes sense I guess, but have you ever seen a small 'Mirror' produce the flanges at all? Haha every time a new trap is emerging, I use a magnifying glass to too see if it has flanges or not.....but I guess i'll just have to wait :D
