If anyone is wondering what kind of moss to use for Mexican butterworts depending on your soil mix ph levels you can use the golden sphagnum moss species. Note that the ph must not be much higher than 7 and stay in between 5-7 ph. Golden sphagnum moss is tolerant of less acidic conditions and can benefit from a small amount of limestone. I recommend adding slightly more peat in with dolomitic limestone and horticultural sand and or perlite, but not too much peat. I grow them all the time in golden sphagnum moss. Other species of sphagnum will not tolerate the same conditions though or will modify the soil nutrients causing a slow ph drop so use a little caution.
