How big do you think these rhizomes are?

These pictures were taken on Nov. 4

Flytraps only have seven leaves per plant, so you have at least 3 plants there. Wait until Spring before dividing them, you may have a couple more than that.
Go you!

Those look like they'll be huge!!!

That rumor has been circulating around for years, but it isn't true. Well grown flytraps with very developed root systems can easily have many more than 7 traps per rhizome. I think most people grow flytraps in pots that are too small and keep them too wet in order to grow optimally and that's why the belief that they only have seven leaves per plant started circulating.

Check out these huge individual plants, each with 20+ traps per rhizome and insanely long roots!:

I was wondering why my typical had 9 healthy leaves and there was only one growth point :D

That's actually popular opinion though. I thought the same thing until it came time to repot mine for the first time. I was stoked the plant had 9 leaves and I was going to have a more robust planting. Can't even guess how many leaves my SD Kronos rhizomes have. They seem to last a very long time. I seriously can't wait for march to see what I'm working with for next season. Going to get those fancy tall white hydro pots people seem to go crazy about lol. I like the idea I read about you using peat/sand for the bottom half of your pots Matt. That's so much more cost efficient too, especially with large ones like that.

Yeah, looks like a lot of my smaller plants are around that range (7-9), so I could see how that thought could spread :) I'm sure it varies by conditions, fertilization, and even cultivar, in addition to being a well-established plant.

I'm really excited for March as well! So excited that I already bought a pack of the white Hydro pots  I knew they were big, but seeing them in person... They're going to be a lot to manage. I'm going to need a lot more planting media!
