Title says it all, but now that I think about it I should go into detail.

I’ve had a byblis liniflora for a while now and it was thriving for such a long time. In the past month or two I have seen it decline and start to turn brown. It has flowered a lot and I have collected a plethora of seeds (I don’t even know if I used plethora right. I just want to sound more mature).

I have read somewhere that flytraps send out stalks if they aren’t in the best condition as a desperate attempt to reproduce and keep living. Does this happen with any plant?

If not, what am I doing wrong? The plant is completely dead now so I can’t bring it back to life, but I have a bunch of seedlings growing.

Byblis liniflora is an Annual.
It grows to maturity, flowers, sets seed, and dies, in one year.
The more it eats, the more seed it produces.
So dying after seed production is perfectly normal.

Good growing,
Mike

This species is technically an annual, but it can survive for several years in cultivation if conditions are right. In this case I will agree that it's likely just normal dieback due to the plant's annual nature. All Byblis species flower profusely, even the perennials. D. burmannii acts similarly, and can easily be kept alive for several years with regular feeding.

While plants technically can flower themselves to death, it will really only happen if conditions are very poor and the plant is desperately attempting to reproduce before it dies.
