I just saw this article. These counties are just north of me, one or two counties away. What we just mentioned about the electricity, Panman.
Customers without power across central, south Alabama

Another article...I'm sure each state is having these!! :?
Thousands of customers are out of power across North Alabama

The tarp shredded in the 20+ mph winds. Anything that didn't have a second covering is totally desiccated. This looks like it is going to be a very painful spring.

Maybe bring your favorites in the house to keep them out of the cold? I'd rather have them come out of dormancy early than have them freeze to death.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully they make it then.

Sorry to hear that, man. I didn't think to suggest this earlier, but, next time, perhaps have a supply of rope on hand to further batten down the tarp. A buddy of mine has a tarp covering his outdoor furniture for the winter. The tarp has survived multiple winters and is fine even now despite our high winds and severe cold. (Cold greatly reduces the flexibility of plastic materials.) I help him get it in place each fall and we always well wrap and tie off the tarped mass with rope. Doing so greatly restricts the tarp's movement when the wind blows preventing much of the flapping and snapping which otherwise wears the material out.

We're now at 2F .... -21F with windchill.

Man, that's a big bummer. And you had done a great job wrapping it up! :( The wind has been pretty relentless down here, too. Here's the graphs from just after the system arrived here last night around 12:30am...

My trap just currently got hit by some frozen rain and is completely frozen over! What do I do, my first year of winter with this guy. I brought him into the outside shed where it’s cold enough for dormancy but will it be ok?

I have never had that happen, but I think if you let it defrost without getting warm, it should be okay. Don't heat it up. That will damage the plant.
