Hello, this year I have been trying an outdoor carnivorous raised bed. I have 3 VFT, 5 Sundews, and 1 Pitcher Plant (s. flava). I made the box and lined it with pond liner to make a tray watering system. The box is placed in a sunny spot and gets 8+ hours of direct sun everyday. It has been doing well and all the plants are growing. Rain has pretty much kept it watered and I only occasionally have to add water or sometimes take water out after a heavy rain. For winter (zone 6) I am planning on leaving everything out except for the sundews which will have to come inside. Maybe stuffing something for insulation around the individual pots and making a clear plastic topper.

I like it! I have plans for something very similar in the future, but mine will be tilted slightly with a spout so water can flow into another lower bed. Then the bottom bed will flow into a reservoir with a pump back up to the top bed to keep the water running the entire time.

Im not sure if it would work for winter, the raised bed will get cold from all sides instead of being insulated by the ground like most beds. I would still be worried about it freezing even after adding the insulation. My winters get dumb though so I cant really judge that well, It really depends on your locale.

Thanks! I do love your flowing water idea, that sounds very cool. Yeah I see your point about it getting too cold. I might have to rethink that plan if I can't come up with a way to keep them warm.

It looks kool and low-profile, great for a bog garden! I wanna try doing something similar but in a hole in the ground

But at least your bog setup is portable. You can always pick it up and move it into the garage or shed during very cold weather.
