So I've been caring for my venus fly trap for about five months now. It's been in the same spot with lots of sunlight and I feed it once every 3-4 weeks.

Recently I was proud to realize that my plant is growing at least six new traps, however some of current traps are turning black slowly and dying.

Is that normal?

Older traps will start turning black and die back, especially of they have been fed. The only time I would worry about a trap starting to blacken if it was new growth.

Even if the traps are not closed, once they reach a certain age they will start dying back in order to conserve energy for more potential new growth and/or photosynthesis.
Thanks
