Hello, my name is Summer and I purchased a VFT a while ago. I recently re-planted it with new soil and a bigger pot. The soil was a mixture of 1 part perlite, 1 part peat moss and 1 part tropical soil (I was told that the less minerals in the soil, the better). It currently lives indoors on an extended windowsill. I water the plant whenever it is dry around the roots.
Lately, I have noticed many brown/black leaves and they are all drooping. :( Although there are new leaves sprouting, I am worried that it is dying. I can send pictures if it helps, but if anyone has any tips that they found helpful, I would love your input.

Tropical soil is probably killing it. Flytraps cannot tolerate any minerals in the soil. You may need to rpot it. Dig it up, flush the roots with distilled, reverse osmosis, or rain water, and repot it in 50/50 peat/perlite. Pictures, and the actual ingredients in the tropical soil will help to know what is wrong.

Some notes:

A windowsill probably won’t sustain a flytrap long term, it isn’t enough light. You should slowly get it used to outdoor life once it starts growing. Put it outside for a few hours where it gets morning light, and withdraw it later. Keep doing this for longer periods and it should adapt.

You should also keep it wetter. Flytraps like their soil constantly moist.

Like Panman said, you may want to check the soil. Whatever’s in this “tropical soil” might be an issue.

Also, make sure you’re not using a terracotta pot for it. Plastic is good.
