I recent bought a small venus fly trap from a store and it was all healthy looking and green. They sit on my window sill and I dont touch them unless to move them into a tray of distilled water to water them. They were all fine until I looked at them this evening and noticed they were all shut when they were all open before and they're starting to turn brown. I've had them for a couple days now and it just happened tonight. Any ideas? I opened a window and it is still winter so maybe the temp brought them into a shock or back into dormancy? Maybe a strong wind closed all of them? I can include pictures if needed. Thank you!

Pictures would definitely help but I had an issue where the crown began to rot from sitting in water indoors. It's one of the most widely spread bits of misinformation out there. Here's the link, perhaps it's similar to your situation: topic47079-15.html

Good luck

This is the plant, they have been in water, should they bounce back if left out? Just noticed one has turned black on the edges

I definitely misunderstood what you had said. The plant is fine. I suggest watering from above if you're keeping it inside but they'll do much better outdoors. The plant will likely become stringy and etiolated indoors unless you make accommodations for it. Traps will die back and regrow over time. They could have closed for any number of reasons but acclimation is no doubt a factor. Its trap speed will be pretty slow because it isn't getting a lot of light though the plant itself appears healthy. Looking at its growth, it has "summer" leaves. Check out the links on flytrapcare for good ideas on how to take care of the plant.
