I have mixed feelings and questions about it...
  • Heat, how do you plan on controlling heat?
    • by Light? could dry out the cloth on top.
    • ambiant temp? could dry out all the cloth
  • Humidity, will sitting in a tray be enough or will a dome be needed?
  • Would the height of the cup bit effect the germination/dampness , eg: low, high, ect
  • Would having the centre of the cup bit be hollow or flat, and would that also effect germination
  • Depth of the tray and the water within it

I just put my seeds in pure water, closed the jar, set it in a bright warm place and I got excellent germination. Seems like this set up is a painful way of doing pretty much the same thing. After they germinate, you will have to plant them is real soil. Taking this setup apart will be a bigger hassle than fishing out some germinated seed out of a jar or ziplock bag.

I guess I should have been clearer with my first post. There really isn't a need to get fancy. Seeds will germinate very well with much less sophisticated methods. However, if you want to experiment with new things, then by all means go for it.

Absolutely, Matt. I should have disclaimered my response. Experiments are a great way to learn.

Yes. This method has some trouble but when I have seeds I'll use this method ( about 2-3 seeds only). Thanks Matt, Wormss and Adam.

@ Adam : Can you show some pictures about your method? I don't know how much water is enough. Your method is cool!

Germination in pure water is the name of the thread. It's either in this forum or the general discussion.
