Hi everybody, I've put a lot of effort into building my greenhouse and it's climate control systems but have neglected to give any consideration to staging and I'm almost out of floor space. I have a few ideas in mind and am curious to find out what materials and structures others use to get their plants up & off the floor?
What a mess!!!

hi linton,
a possible idea is:
get somw bessa blocks, and lay strong mesh on it and then have all your neps under the benches in filtered lite while your other plants are getting full sun. - just a sugestion thow
just curios, what plants are in the foam cups?

122 divisions of Venus Fly Trap from repotting.
get some besser blocks, and lay strong mesh on it and then have all your neps under the benches in filtered lite while your other plants are getting full sun
Great idea - saves mucking about with timber and it won't ever rot. Thanks Mitch.

I went the cheap route in my two greenhouses and built benches out of 2"x4" boards and OSB (oriented strand board which is basically plywood). Here's the design I used:
http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/work ... w20xl.html

The benches are nice and sturdy and I love them. I wanted to use some sort of nice benchtop like this:
http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/Dura ... fo/BN-DBU/
but I couldn't justify the cost. The OSB works fine, but it won't last too long because it doesn't stand up to water very well.

i had the website for a place that builds shelves custom ti fit our style of greenhouse but i cant find there website!
they are incredibly expensive thow! there were 2 tier ones and they were 1.2m long (so you would need 3 on one side)
but they were over $200each!

Thanks for the links Matt - they look good & simple enough to build too.
what is your climate control? - is this an air con?
Yes Mitch, an evaporative air-con which is controlled by thermostat and micro mist system that is controlled by hygrostat, plus auto vent openers in the roof.

$200.00 per bench, that's $600.00 per side plus one at the rear....$1400.00! Pffft! - the whole glasshouse didn't even cost that much.

im still strugling to create staging for my glashouse.
have you seen pictures of john yates setup, linton? - what i want to do for my GH is have something like that on the bottom of my glasshouse that runs around the whole thing exept for where the door is, and biuld something above that using strong mesh, perhaps with wood legs - bessa blocks might be to big and take up a bit to much space.

linton, may i ask approx length of shelfs, and how many?

would 500mm be wide enough?
~5-600 off the ground?

-------
my bench seat i made from 2nd grade product @ work.

1m x 500mm charcoal pool coping (2nd grade)
4x 2nd grade tasman retaining wall corner blocks.

total cost of about 20-30 bucks.

Looks nice & sturdy mate. I've opted for wire mesh 600mm wide & 1200mm off the floor around the perimeter of the glasshouse - a total of 8.4 linear meters of raised bench space plus enough room to grow underneath as well - 16.8 linear meters total. I intend to build a timber bench to support it as per the link that Matt has provided above - a fine job to start this weekend!
