I have been a member of this forum for a couple of weeks now and have really enjoyed reading all the tips and ideas on caring for plants of all sorts. I have a typical venus fly trap and I was just wondering what other plants i should get next, preferably another carniverous plant and one that is easy to care for and not too difficult to get hold of here in the UK. Any ideas anybody?

I can't help with what's easily obtainable in the UK, but places like Shropshire Carnivores in the UK should make it relatively easy for you to get a hold of most carnivorous plants.

If you're used to flytraps, an easy step would be sarracenia or temperate drosera for growing outdoors. Tropical drosera would also be a good one to get into - you just have to keep them indoors.

If you only want one plant for now, I'd personally recommend a sarracenia. They have about the same requirements as flytraps with the main exception being that sarracenia can live in soil that's completely soaked 24/7 and be happy. However, sarracenia, mainly due to how tall they are, don't do as well under artificial lights.

If you're using artificial lights, you'd have an easier time with tropical or subtropical drosera.

Good luck. :)

Welcome!
Sorry I can't help with availability in the UK, but I think Veronis is right about the temperate drosera and sarracenia. They would probably do well with the same setup you already have, so it should be an easy addition.
Keep us posted on your success.

Hi Wellsie, Welcome to the forum.

As the other two posts have mentioned Sarracenia and temperate Drosera would do will with you're VFT.

As for getting CP's in the UK most garden centres sell the typical range of CP's but if your looking for something special or rare you will need to buy online or go and see a specialist grower. We have loads of growers in the UK all happy to help and sell plants (myself included)

Hope this help
