I pointed this thread out to Colin as I feel people should be allowed to defend themselves. This was his reply:
Thanks for sharing. I found the thread you're talking about on flytrapstore; If customers are purchasing and transplanting Sarracenia mid to late summer it's no surprise that they don't show vigorous growth until the next growing season. In fact, it would be better for the plants to cut them back entirely to force them to expend energy on establishing roots. No one one likes to get a plant with no leaves in the mail, though.

All the plants we ship are guaranteed to be healthy and pest free on arrival or we replace them no questions asked. I can afford to do that because I can only remember two occasions in the past several years (and tens of thousands of plants we've shipped) where I had a complaint about pests. Obviously, I'd encourage you to form your own judgement but I think there's a fair amount of shilling for flytrapstore on their own forums.

First thing is that a sales transaction happens between two individuals when they agree upon a final price for a piece of merchandise. If one or the other of the parties don't agree on the price there is no sale, no transaction. It's simple. My youngest grandchild can comprehend that, though she's in the third grade this year she had that concept down *way back* in the first grade. It's not rocket science. If a *total* price doesn't agree with you...walk on. This isn't a socialist country (though some anti-Americans wish it to be) where a broom costs everybody $10 and a pair of jeans costs everybody $50...and there's no choice in the matter. We have a free market economy...capitalism, which has worked quite well for nigh on 250 years and has made this nation the most powerful and respected nation in the world...until possibly very recently. And I hope it continues on being free market...until this old earth is no more.

As for quoting Colin (guy who owns/runs CPN, I presume) stating that "but I think there's a fair amount of shilling for flytrapstore on their own forums.",...he may not appreciate the divulging of that comment if that was a private message that he sent to you. That statement really surprised me. People don't like being labeled as dishonest, shady, con men, etc.,. I'm not saying the statement has, but it could cost CPN some customers. FWIW

Definitely not my experience. I've ordered from them several times and the plants have been smaller and slower growing, regardless of the season. The last pitcher plants I got from them had scale and mealy bugs. The aquatic utricularia looked more like sludge. That last one I did get a replacement. As far as

None of those comments have come from Matt. They are all independent members of this forum.

Yes Pirateship is very easy to use and can provide some substantial discounts, as well as having a built-in address search system to avoid mistakes. It even supports international packages if you find yourself ever wanting to send one so you can fill out all the paperwork at home.

On the topic of CPN, I've talked to quite a few people who have gotten pest-infested plants from them. I think people just don't tend to contact nurseries about that since they aren't expecting there to be any recourse. I am rather surprised that they receive so few complaints though.
