Well I'll be VERY happy if can get at least one gemmae to sprout. Hopefully at least one of them survived. I think lots of growth buds got squished out during the trip, because I noticed them floating around by themselves in the bag.

On the other hand, the ones that the post office didn't mangle and that were planted right away, seem to be doing fine. So far, the taco-wrap is working.

I don't think my gemmae survived freezing, they have started turning a light brown color.
Here are pictures from 4 days ago and yesterday:

I'm not sure the tan color is bad. Mine still have a lot of green on them but it just might be algae. The main part of the gemma is also tan. (Of course, they could all be dying.)

Friends, I just want to reiterate that this test was to determine if you can receive these large gemmae mailed inside a regular envelope with the "taco", and it shows that it is possible. However, it is not the only way to send these.
If the recipient would prefer, they can be shipped in a small box, but the recipient will need to pay for that extra cost. I may have a few small boxes laying around, but not knowing for sure, the recipient would want to plan on $9 ish for a small flat rate. A padded envelope is a possibility, maybe a "taco" in a padded envelope, but I may not have the time to run around to find the extra supplies, so it may need to be sent as a SASPE.
I'll do whatever the requester wants, within reason, to get these to you in as pristine shape as possible, but I cannot control USPS handling. If you want me to dance naked around them under a full moon while burning sage before I send them, we'll talk.

Nope. Carnivorous plants just love this Southern weather.

My recipe.
Equal parts peat/perlite/sand well moistened and in deep pot. Top wit 1/8 to 1/4 inch milled sphagnum moss, wet and rung out. Individually place gemmae on surface of the moss, spacing them evenly. Cover with a plastic bag and place under strong lights on 16 hour photoperiod. Remove bag daily, mist gemmae, and replace bag. Remove bag once plants look established and water normally. Replace the bag and try again if the plants start to fade. Nightly, dance naked around them under a full moon while burning sage.

This is how I want all my seeds sent from now on. I can wait.

Does this mean you get a full moon every night? You live in a very interesting place.
