Looks good to me. Sakrete says you can use it for pool filters, so it should actually be pure silica.

I use the all purpose sand, vinegar tested, it works fine. Cost effective too.

Generally sand labeled as commercial or builder's sand will be pure silica. I hope that's actually medium grain though, because the Quikrete we get here only comes in fine, and it's far too small for my taste.

Ah same as Quikrete then. It's still very fine for "medium" but what can you do.

Honestly I would go with whichever is cheaper, although I would probably suggest going for a finer grain sand if you are primarily starting seeds, and otherwise the courser option.

The courseness of the sand is always changing. Sometimes its more course.

Are there any farm supply or pool supply stores in your area? If so, see if they have any medium-grit filter sand. That's what I use with my plants.
