Hey guys! I was browsing earlier posts to see if I could find any information on flower stalk cuttings, and noticed that all the strikes were on completely dead stalks. Mine only died the top quarter inch the first 2 weeks it was cut. It has been cut for almost 2 months now, and absolutely no progress since the first 2 weeks. So I guess my question is, do the flower stalks always die before a strike?

In my case, no. The flower stalk stays alive as the plant is striking, much like when you would pull leaves from a ping and put them in a plastic bag, the leaf is still alive and gives the baby plant energy. If you want to do flower-stalk cuttings correctly, it seems to work best for me to cut the flower stalk when it is 3 inches, and push the tip into some soil. Heat mat/Flourescent tubes help increase heat and humidity for a proper strike. Interestingly enough, some cultivars like 'dente' I have not ever gotten a strike on any vegetative propagation, but B-52 works almost every time.
