I know a tin can is not ideal, but I like the look of planting fly traps in vintage soup cans or even a maxwell house coffee can. The plants sit outside in direct sunlight, but if I use enough sphagnum moss, will this protect the roots from burns? anyone have experience with growing outdoors in tin cans. thanks, Michael.

I wouldn't do it. Rust could probably be deadly. Maybe you can line the inside with some sort of Silicon paint or something but idk.

I would think a tin can isn't deep enough. You need a pot that is a minimum of 6 inches deep for optimal root growth.

Not to mention you'd need to drill holes in the cans for drainage. Then there's the factor of them rusting and the rust leeching into the substraight and killing your plants. Or just rusting to the point of being unusable.
