Hello all,

I live in Harrisville, Utah. Last year I started this hobby with a venus flytrap from Walmart. Thinking, no way is this flytrap going through make it through the winter. Well it did and it is doing great. Now that I am confident that my plants will survive I added a D. Intermedia and a S. Purpurea. My goal is to expand my collection with more temperate carnivorous plants and maybe one day I'll be brave enough to get a nepenthes. I'm glad that I found this group as I see there is much to learn about carnivorous plants.

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you're off to a good start.

I'd recommend a couple of easy to grow Sub-Tropical Sundews to add to your collection.

Drosera capensis and Drosera spatulata will grow year-round so you can bring them inside and they'll continue to grow for you while the rest of your collection is dormant.

Good growing,
Mike

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll look into those. Everyone says those capensis grow like weeds. I might try those next.

Here in the northern Utah it gets to 100 Fahrenheit in the summer and drops below freezing in the winter. Seems like that is a good range for flytraps. I just wish we had a longer growing period. My flytraps have a small flower stalk still because there has been lots of rain which brings in the cold weather. Waiting for the stock to grow a bit more before cutting it and trying my luck at planting the stalk.
